Shannon Anderson “Clint Clinton” Stanfield Sr.,a loving father, treasured friend, gifted photographer and talented musician, succumbed to cancer after a valiant 2 1/2 year battle on Sunday, February 28, 2010. He was 45.There will be a celebration of Shannon’s life on Sunday, March 7, 4 p.m., at Manhattan’s on the corner of Central & Jackson Avenues in the Old City. Donations in Shannon’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, East Region Office, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909.

Born March 8, 1964, Shannon was a pivotal figure in the Knoxville rock’n'roll music scene. He first achieved notoriety as guitarist/songwriter for 5Twins, a band that melded punk riffs with a smart pop sensibility to become one of the most popular of Knoxville’s first wave of punk groups, circa 1980-1982. After graduating from West High School, Shannon moved to Manhattan’s Lower East Side, where he developed his “Clint Clinton” persona as lead singer/guitarist of country/roots rock’n'roll band The Clintons, an act that continued in various incarnations for 25 years, both in New York and, later, in Knoxville.

In the early 80s The Clintons were quite popular in New York’s downtown music scene, playing frequently at nightspots such as CBGB, Danceteria, and The Ritz, and touring the Eastern Seaboard several times over. The group was critically lauded in New York, frequently appearing in publications such as the New York Times, the East Village Eye, and Village Voice, where music columnist Robert Christgau described Shannon as “the best rhythm guitarist I’ve seen in years.”

The band released recordings on noted independent labels Coyote/Twin-Tone Records and Diesel Only records, opening a spate of shows for celebrated artists such as Johnny Thunders, the Fleshtones, Billy Bragg, the Del Fuegos, The Cult, the BoDeans, and countless others. In 1986 Shannon returned to Knoxville where he continued to record and perform with The Clintons for the remainder of his life.

Shannon received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from the University of Tennessee in 1996. After graduating, he held a number of communication-related jobs which included music columnist for the Knoxville News Sentinel and photographer/writer for TNN’s Club Dance show.

Shannon’s photographs appeared in many local publications such as the News Sentinel and Metro Pulse. By the mid 1990s he became a renowned wedding photographer, eventually opening his own studio, Shannon Stanfield Photography, a business he ran for the rest of his life.

Shannon is fondly remembered in Knoxville and New York for his guitar’s joyous country twang, his songwriting skills, quick wit, always upbeat personality, and loyalty to friends and family.

Shannon’s survivors include son, Shannon Anderson Stanfield, Jr. (“Tate”), age 13; daughter, Katherine Celeste Stanfield, age 9; their mother, Dana Stanfield Bayiates; former wife, Kimberley Bell and her daughter, Elise Bell; sister, Oleta Lynn Stanfield Collins of Bakersfield, California; sister, Deanie Greene of Miami, Florida; aunt, JoDell Stanfield Oaks of Knoxville, and other treasured relatives.

Imagination Library is celebrating five sweet years of free books for Knox County children. And what’s a celebration without a cake? Knox
County Public Library is pleased to announce the inaugural Great Cake Bake on March 13, 2010 to be held in the L&N Train Station on World’s Fair Park from noon to 5:00 p.m.The event includes competition cakes, a showcase of bakeries, a demonstration stage, a book and bake sale of all kinds of goodies, a cake walk, children’s activities, and much more. Tickets to the event can be ordered online at www.knoxlib.org, or at any Knox County Public Library.   Cost of admission is $5; children age 10 and younger are free.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Area bakers of all levels are encouraged to show off their best decorating skills and enter the competition. Divisions include Professional, Advanced, Beginner or Junior (17 and younger) in both wedding and all occasion categories. An entry fee of $10 includes two tickets to the event on March 13. The deadline for competition cake entries is March 5, 2010. Bakers can enter on-line atwww.knoxlib.org or at Sugarbaker’s on Central Avenue Pike.

Proceeds from The Great Cake Bake benefit Imagination Library of Knox County. This event is made possible through the generous support of Food City, Sugarbaker’s, Knoxville News Sentinel, B97.5, East Tennessee Public Television, Sisters of the Skillet, and Friends of the Library.

Imagination Library was begun by Dolly Parton in 1996 to serve the children of Sevier County. Since then, the program has grown to serve more than 500 communities on three continents. Imagination Library provides a free, quality book each month to any registered child from birth to age five. Each book is carefully selected by a “blue ribbon” team of literacy and child development experts.

Knox County launched its Imagination Library program in January 2005.   Knox County’s Imagination Library mails books to 73% of the eligible population— over 17,000 books per month—leading the nation in the percentage of registered children among urban counties.  The program, which is administered by Knox County Public Library, has now mailed over 600,000 books to more than 31,000 children since January 2005, giving kids access to the high-quality children’s literature that can help them develop a passion for reading and help them enter school ready to succeed. The Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation provides 50% of the funding for all Tennessee communities in Imagination Library, with the balance being raised by the local board that supports Imagination Library.

Vienna , Tenley……………. or neither? Your thoughts? Mine……………….Isn’t it ironic that he felt so inclined to go back on the show to convince the last Bachelorette that one of the guys was not right for her? Yet,with all the sirens,bells,and whistles,he still says that he doesn’t care what the girls say about Vienna.Hmmmmm…..

A Winter Wedding at Crescent Bend

It is all a little weird for us grown-ups when our parents date and then get remarried. But it is all good.. it is just different than when we were little.. but we are not little anymore. We are supposed to be grownup  RIGHT?? My father passed away almost 15 years ago and no one can replace him in my heart. BUT there is certainly lots more room in my heart for someone else who loves and cherishes my mother. Three years ago friends from church introduced my mother to Coy Freeman, little did we know that they would get married this January. To make a really long story kinda short.. I’ve now have 2 new stepbrothers; one I went to art school with and another whose wedding we photographed eight years ago.. small world Knoxville is.. Welcome to the family: Mark, Jody, Andy, Katy, Jonathan, Matthew, Carter and Jackson!

Music is a big part of my mother and Coy’s lives so music was a big part of their special day. Coy’s life-long friend joined them on the day to awe us all with his playing on his Stradivarius. I’m pretty musically illiterate but WOW it was incredible.. there is nothing like it.

A grand time was held by all… simple ceremony at Second Presbyterian Church just with family members and an elegant champagne brunch across the street at Crescent Bend. Everything was perfect. Judy, the coordinator at Crescent Bend, had everything all organized and flowing smoothly. Great food by All Occasion Catering,Flowers by Leonard @ Always in Bloom and Cake by Magpies. … no honeymoon yet.. the next day was spent with all the grandkids!

Mel was on board for the rehearsal which was at the Great Southern Brewing Co. in downtown Knoxville. Justin is a bit of a beer afficionado so the place was apropo!! Seems as if a great time was held by all.

On to the big day which took place at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and then on to the Crowne Plaza right after the ceremony. Bella Fiori Florist arrived with beautiful bright fall colors that complemented all the details that Justin and Rachelle had put together.

Lots of fun details, Converse shoes worn by the groomsmen, great CD put together by Justin and all around good time had by all!! The icing on the cake .. so to speak was the groom’s cake by Peggy of Magpies. Is it a cake or a Guinness?
